ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ³¬ÎÛ’s Thermal Spray Technologies (TST) division focuses on engineering surfaces that can withstand extreme environments. Component failure can lead to downtime, replacement costs, and efficiency losses in critical machinery.

TST serves as a materials engineering partner, delivering customized coating solutions tailored to your equipment and use case. Our in-house technology center can validate coating effectiveness and solve specific wear, corrosion, and thermal challenges.

Proprietary Spray and Fuse Coating Capabilities

Within our TST division, we have created several proprietary coating solutions. These solutions rely on chemical fusion, which creates a stronger bond than physical interlocking between the surface and the coating.

Wear Resistant

Wear Resistant Coatings

Wear is caused by mechanisms such as abrasion, erosion, adhesion, fretting, and cavitation. Developing proper wear-resistant coatings requires in-depth knowledge of these mechanisms and the factors behind them. Wear coating services are critical to many industries, including:

  • Mulch pulverizing
  • Power generation
  • Cement
  • Grain processing
  • Agriculture
  • Steel

Wear-resistant coatings such as carbide can be applied to simple components like bolts in agricultural machinery and complex components like jet engine compressor blades. In fact, carbide-coated bolts in agricultural combines are crucial to extending bolt service life and preventing machine damage. Other materials used in wear-resistant coatings include metal oxides like chromium oxide, which is hard and highly resistant to chemical attacks.

The experts at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ³¬ÎÛ have a wealth of experience in materials engineering and deposition methods to enhance the surface properties of your components. We can provide application-specific solutions tailored to your exact needs.

Corrosion Resistant Coating

Corrosion Resistant/Protective Coatings

To select the right corrosion-resistant coating, it is important to understand the characteristics of the corrosive setting that threatens the structures or components that need protection. These structures may include pipelines, plant equipment, and bridges.

Corrosion protection is commonly used on components as large as coastal bridges, automobile parts, and windmills. The marine, mining, and industrial sectors often use protective coatings to prevent damage from chemicals, saltwater, and humidity.

Electrially Conductive

Electrically Conductive Coatings

Electrically conductive coatings can help offer different degrees of electrical conductivity to various materials like polymers and ceramic composites. The coatings help create:

  • Heating elements
  • Slip rings
  • Ground straps
  • Contact points
  • Static dissipative elements
  • Commutator segments
  • Flexible circuits
  • In-situ thermocouples

Conductive coatings can be applied to nearly any substrate, imparting electrically conductive properties to these surfaces. These coatings can enhance the electrical conductivity of less conductive metallic substrates, thus eliminating the need to manufacture or purchase new components made of more conductive materials.

FluxFuse® Technology

This proprietary coating process serves high-wear components, such as agricultural blades and harvesting equipment. During this process, we heat parts quickly and evenly in a flux bath, creating a strong bond between the coating and the part that makes it more wear-resistant. This process offers several advantages, including:

  • Minimizing the distortion of the metal part, compared to traditional coating methods
  • Working together with the austempering heat treatment process to strengthen steel
  • Strengthening the existing weld surfaces on parts.

Fusionbond® Technology

Our Fusionbond coating process delivers high-performance coatings for extreme environments. We combine advanced materials with precision thermal processing to create coatings that offer various benefits compared to traditional methods, including:

  • Durability: The strong metallurgical bond between coating and substrate enables this coating to withstand impacts without chipping.
  • Corrosion resistance: The dense coatings have low porosity and permeability, preventing environmental factors from reaching the underlying metal surface.
  • Wear resistance: Our process carefully controls carbide formation within the metal matrix, resulting in enhanced resistance to abrasive wear.

Comprehensive Engineered Coating Solutions

In addition to our existing proprietary solutions, we can engineer coatings with the properties you require for your application. Our team can provide the following types of coatings.

Wear Resistance

We offer wear-resistant coatings that use tungsten carbides, chrome oxides, and other custom blends that offer extreme hardness and wear protection. Wear is caused by mechanisms such as abrasion, erosion, adhesion, fretting, and cavitation. Developing effective wear-resistant coatings requires in-depth knowledge of these mechanisms and the factors that drive them.

The experts at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ³¬ÎÛ have a wealth of experience in materials engineering and deposition methods to enhance the surface properties of your components. We can provide application-specific solutions tailored to your exact needs. We use our knowledge to create components that have extended lifespans in demanding environments.

Corrosion Protection

Corrosion protection coatings prevent or reduce degradation due to chemical or electrochemical reactions with the environment. They create a barrier that prevents corrosive agents from reaching the substrate. To select the right corrosion-resistant coating for your component, it is essential to understand the characteristics of the corrosive environment threatening the structures or components that need protection. Corrosive settings may include those with:

  • Chemicals
  • Saltwater or moisture
  • Temperature and altitude extremes
  • Weather exposure

Corrosion can also occur when metal comes into contact with oxygen. We can discuss the environment in which your component will operate to identify potential corrosion risks. Once we do, we can tailor a coating to offer the necessary level of protection.

Dielectric and Conductive Coatings

In some cases, you may need a coating that resists electrical flow. Dielectric coatings serve this purpose. They act as insulators and can help separate conductive components, prevent short circuits, and protect electrical devices from breakdown.

Other situations may call for a coating that allows electricity to flow. These coatings can restore or enhance conductivity and provide electromagnetic shielding or antistatic surfaces. At TST Engineered Coating Solutions, we create dielectric and conductive coatings that meet the most stringent performance requirements for your application.

Thermal Barriers

Thermal barrier coatings serve metallic surfaces that operate at elevated temperatures. They insulate the underlying metal, reducing its temperature and extending the operational life. We can engineer thermal barrier coatings with materials such as ceramic topcoats and metallic bond coats, providing strong adhesion and effective heat insulation.
